Full credit to Sheriff Beracy for recognizing what needs to be done BEFORE something happens, and allowing Hams to do their part.
During an emergency or natural disaster, police, fire and rescue personnel can always use help. That's why Gratiot County Sheriff Rick Beracy has taken steps to line up aid from ham radio operators.
Beracy has deputized Richard Heaththingy of Ithaca, William and Robin Rogers of St. Louis and John and Jean Gibson of Alma to offer emergency help as needed.
"We wanted to do this before something happened," Beracy said. "You don't want to wait until there is some type of disaster to see who you can get.
