RAC President & Board Pledge Support to ARES
Radio Amateurs of Canada President Earle Smith, VE6NM, and the RAC Board of Directors, have publicly committed to increasing tangible support to the Field Services arm of the organization, including the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the National Traffic Service (NTS), across Canada.
In a recent address at a meeting of RAC ARES volunteers at Orillia, Ontario, President Smith stated RAC's intention to undertake a program of greater recognition of ARES/NTS volunteers through individual contact and via public forums such as bulletins, the RAC website and through The Canadian Amateur (TCA) magazine.
Mr. Smith states that, in order to enhance the image of the Amateur Service, the importance of the Field Organization needs to be brought to the forefront in discussions with all levels of government.
He states it is a two-way street, however, and that volunteers in the field must present a professional and unified front in order to be rewarded with the kind of public recognition they so deserve.
