Anyone successful with it? If so, how much power did you use, what mode, which frequency, and what country? Me? No success. Haven't even been able to talk to Canada without the aid of a repeater. Maybe if FM wasn't so prevalent....

I know this isn't considered DX, but I have talked to cleveland ohio, and Oscoda Michigan on 50 watts through repeater. There was good 2m band conditions one night...

2M in FM mode is not known for long DX communications most times, but when the conditions are good, you can get some surprising results. If you're ever around a 2M "all-mode" rig, you might get a chance to see how much further you can get running in SSB mode. It still won't get you as far as some of those HF bands, but it will get you out further than FM. As for "talking to Canada" without a repeater, try it from Hart Plaza with just an HT - that'll be all you need when you're on the waterfront. No big buildings in between to take away your signal. One early morning, my 50W mobile was getting my voice clearly out from my driveway, on the North shore of Lake Erie, all the way to London, Ontario - about 125 miles away! The same morning, I was tripping a repeater in central Ohio, thanks to being on the lakefront. Not bad for 2M FM, but anybody on HF would have a much more impressive story for you.

Hi My name is Terry I operate 2m ssb and have worked lots of dx on 2m. I have 156 grids confirmed, and 162 grids worked. My furthest contact on 2m is tx grid el09 just over 1,247 miles I worked it last summer via e-skip.I have 32 states confirmed as well.I was luckey enough to be at the radio last july and worked a ton of stations via e-skip, we had a great band opening that lasted over two hours.some people said it was the biggest e opening on 2m in 20 or 30 years, I know it was the best opening I've heard and I've been on 2m ssb since about 1994. I use stacked 13b2's @ about 55ft. I run 150w the rig is A kenwood ts790a. I've worked A lot of neat stuff via tropo as well. So there you have it there is a lot of dx to be had on 2m ssb and you don't need a super station to work it, a simple 13 element and about 100w or so is all you need to have fun on 2m ssb. 73 Terry ve3tmg
